Grand Park City Hall, a 5 star property which has existed in the central region of Singapore for many decades embarked on one massive overhaul of its premises beginning in 2016, with its update of various amenities and collection of 186 guest rooms finally being completed after undergoing nearly 2 years of extensive refurbishment works. We were most fortunate to have been accorded a personal tour by the hotel staff all around, and came away suitably impressed.
An unspoken air of elegance and poise lingers in the arrival foyer on the first level, trailing tightly behind as one ascends to the main lobby area two floors above. The design philosophy is largely driven by contemporary considerations subtly infused with tradition , this running parallel to the desire to harmonize various provisioned spaces in an open-concept fashion; be confronted by some semblance of physical continuity from the gym to the Crystal Club Lounge right beside, as well as from the main reception desk to the Tablescape Restaurant & Bar.
We were ushered to view two separately configured guest rooms on the ninth floor (from the Deluxe and Premier categories) - each a reasonably spacious abode rinsed in warm undertones and neutral lighting. A king-sized bed, 50” HD SMART TV, adjustable ceiling fan and glass-encased bathroom cum shower stall featured within, the larger Premier concept being endowed with a bathtub and long couch setup. Technophiles can also download the GPCH application (available at the iTunes App Store or Google Playstore) which interfaces with onsite control systems, as such room and level access by lift can be granted simply through swiping the phone. Air-conditioner / light settings as well as various electronic devices can also be manipulated with ease by means of the app.
Truth be told, this was once a hotel which shouldered the unenviable reputation of merely being just another aged, somewhat ordinary lodging option for business travelers on a quick stopover-hardly synonymous with the notion of pomp and splendour as might be suggested by its name. That however is a fact of the past, as Grand Park City Hall in the present day is rightfully a luxurious, high tech beast firing on all cylinders.
